Why Reddit removes comments

The removal notice tells you who removed it, and that tells you why.

  • "Removed by Reddit." The site-wide filter. Usually a link from a new or low-karma account, the same comment pasted in several threads, or something that trips the content policy.
  • "Removed by moderator." A subreddit rule. Most often self-promotion, a link where links are not allowed, a blocked domain, or a karma floor you have not reached.
  • Automod. Many subreddits auto-remove comments below a karma or account-age threshold, or containing certain words. It happens instantly and silently.
  • You will not be told. A removed comment still shows up for you. Open the thread in a logged-out window to check whether anyone else can see it.
  • What keeps a comment up. Answer the question first, in full. Mention your product last, say it is yours, and name another option. No link unless someone asked for one, and never the same wording twice.
