How deleted Reddit posts can still be read
Reddit removes the text from the page, not from the copies made minutes earlier.
- It is captured fast. Posts and comments are captured within about 30 seconds of going up. Anything that lived longer than that is usually here in full.
- User deletions keep the text. When someone deletes their own post or comment later, Reddit shows [deleted] but the original text is still here.
- Instant removals show as removed. Automod and Reddit's filters act within seconds of posting, before the text could be captured. Those show here as removed before capture, with no body to read.
- Scores lag by about 36 hours. Vote counts are refreshed after the first day and a half, so a fresh thread reads 1 point everywhere until then.
- Nothing is stored here. This page shows what was public. Only content that was public on Reddit appears, and nothing you paste is kept.
