Picking a Reddit username
A few things worth knowing before you commit, because you cannot change it afterwards.
- Reddit's rules. 3 to 20 characters. Letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens only. No spaces, and it cannot be changed later.
- Skip the digits if you can. Names ending in a string of numbers read as throwaway or bot accounts to moderators and to other users.
- Keep it pronounceable. People refer to each other by username in threads. A name someone can say out loud gets used and remembered.
- Leave your brand out of it. A username that is a company name gets treated as an advertiser on sight. Post as a person, mention the company when it is relevant.
- Check it is free. Availability is confirmed on Reddit's signup screen. If the exact name is taken, try the same words in a different order.
